The Magic Box

June 26th, 2017

Year 6 have been looking at ‘The Magic Box’ poem by Kit Wright. They adapted the poem to create their own version. Here is Amelia’s version of the poem.

I will put in my box,

A sweet, succulent smell of liquorice,

A flame from the menacing volcano in Peru,

A wisp of smoke from a Chinese dragon.

I will put in my box,

The first goal scored by David Beckham,

The last words that my Grandad spoke,

My favourite memories from our time together.

I will put in my box,

Two golden wishes for my future,

A sip of water from a magical lake,

The skin from a tropical fish.

I will put in my box,

A fifth season and an eighth day,

A dragon inhabiting a pink castle,

A devil ascending to heaven.

My box is fashioned from laughter, joy and happiness,

With whispers chanting untold stories on the lid and forgotten worlds in the corners,

The hinges are my dog’s claws joining it together with courage.

I shall fly in my box,

On the last ghostly galleon-like clouds,

Then go and see heaven to hear my Grandad’s voice,

His smile solved all of my problems.

The Dogs Trust

June 26th, 2017

This week, year 6 had some very special visitors. Laura-Jane and Winnie, the pug came to visit us from The Dogs Trust. The children took part in workshops where they learnt how to be safe around dogs and how to tell if a dog isn’t happy.
